Become a Medical Assistant in 9 months! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Kim Williams

Medical Assisting is a full-time, 39 week adult program which provides 920 hours of academic and clinical laboratory experience, including 160 hours of externship in a variety of medical office settings in Knox and surrounding counties. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Classes begin each September and enrollment starts in January.

The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled allied health professional who performs administrative and clinical procedures in ambulatory settings under the supervision of the physician. Our graduates are eligible to take a national certification examination offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (http://www.aama-ntl.org) to become certified.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor's "Occupational Outlook Handbook," Medical Assisting is expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the 2006-16 decade.

The Knox County Career Center Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (http://www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).
