The Child Development Associate (CDA) is a trained and qualified caregiver for young children ages birth through five.  This certification program focuses on the acquisition of practical skills needed to prepare individuals to be credentialed as entry-level early childhood education professionals.  Individuals work to nurture children's physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth in a child development framework.

The unique aspect of our program at KCCC is that we will include the CDA Certification's required 480 hours of on-the-job training in a childcare facility as a structured part of our program under the direction of our own "field advisor."

Students achieve the CDA credential through the Council for Professional Recognition.  For more details of the credential process, visit the CDA web site by clicking here.

Our KCCC CDA program offers classroom study and field experience so you are able to:

  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for children;
  • Advance children's physical and intellectual competence;
  • Support their social and emotional development and provide positive guidance;
  • Establish positive and productive relationships with families;
  • Ensure a well-run, purposeful program responsive to participant needs; and
